Now that Winter finally packed her shit up and skipped right over to Summer, I think it’s the perfect time to talk about sunscreens.
To be honest BLACK PEOPLE should be wearing sunscreen every day, But I’m not here to judge 🙃. People of color are a lot more susceptible to post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. So every time you go outside without sunscreen, you are making your problems worse. The sun already causes your skin to darken when it absorbs uv rays. The darkening of skin is meant to protect your skin from burning. When your skin darkens, so does your hyper-pigmentation. So it’s important to find a good sunscreen that will help prevent your hyperpigmentation and dark spots from getting worst.
IF YOU ARE USING ANY CHEMICAL EXFOLIATIONS , YOU NEED TO WEAR SUNSCREEN DURING THE DAY.
Whenever we step outside, (sun shining or not) we are exposed to two different types of UV rays: UVA and UVB. UVB is what causes sunburn, and UVA affects the deep layers of the dermis and can cause premature aging.
Below I included sunscreens for different skin concerns, along with what I love to use.
*Dry: If your skin always feels tight and needs an extra nourishing sunscreen, look for formulas that add some hydration. Try: Missha’s Mild Essence Sun Milk SPF 50/PA+++ $14. Even though I have Normal/ Combination skin on my no makeup days I like to use products for Dry skin, so that my skin gets that extra hydration. I like this product because it doesn’t leave me greasy.
Sensitive: If your skin reacts easily, you want to look for formulas with no added fragrances and designed specially for sensitive-skin types. Try: Neogen’s Day-Light Protection Sun Screen SPF 50/PA+++ $34.
*Oily/ Acne Prone: If you’re looking for something for under your makeup, that balances oil productions and leaves you matte. Try Missha’s All Around Safe Block Sebum Zero Sun SPF 50+/PA+++$14. This product wears well under my makeup because its lightweight and mattifying.
